Still Switching Off Meta Workplace? You Need a Daily Employee App

James Dean

Meta Workplace alternative — daily employee app with Spaces

Meta shut Workplace down. A lot of teams are still mid-switch — or living in the temporary stack they threw together the week the shutdown timeline landed. The default mistake is replacing an intranet with another intranet: a prettier feed, richer groups, more “culture” modules, and the same problem on Tuesday. The floor never opens it. Coverage still lives in WhatsApp. The roster is a PDF. The punch is somewhere else.

Pebb is not a Facebook-clone social feed product. It is a Connecteam-class all-in-one employee app for roughly 11–80 frontline + office people: org-wide chat on Basic, unlimited Spaces, published shifts, and GPS clock-in (stamp ± near-branch — not live breadcrumbs). Basic is $2.50 per user per month. Premium is $4. No free plan. Full trial, no credit card. No payroll, LMS, or ATS. Not an engagement pivot. Not “we used to be chat-only.” One daily surface for talk, rooms, roster, and punch.

If you need Slack/Teams for keyboard-first knowledge work, keep them for that desk. If you need the closer to see the swap, punch near the branch, and ping the lead without opening three apps — that is this page.

What Workplace refugees actually lost

Workplace was never just a feed. For many multi-site teams it was the closest thing to a shared company room on a phone: groups per site, announcements that reached people who never open email, a place to drop files and updates without inventing a second tool.

When it went away, three replacements showed up in demos:

1. Another social intranet — groups, posts, recognition. Fine for HQ. Thin for “who’s on Saturday” and “clock in here.”

2. Slack or Microsoft Teams — strong for desk teams; often a habit fight vs WhatsApp on the floor.

3. A scheduler + WhatsApp — roster, coverage talk, and punch in three places. The hole never closed; it split.

The honest ask for 11–80 person construction, warehouse, security, hospitality, retail, and multi-location ops: not “rebuild Facebook at work.” Rebuild the daily employee app — talk next to rooms next to shifts next to punch.

The wedge: Spaces, not another social graph

Pebb’s structural answer is Spaces — unlimited dynamic rooms on Basic and Premium, not billed hubs and not per-location SKUs.

  • Downtown store Space: shifts + clock-in + forms

  • Managers Space: feed + private files + planning posts

  • Site B Space: shifts + GPS stamp ± near-branch + safety forms

  • Everyone Space: company announcements and policies

People only see Spaces they belong to. Chat stays org-wide outside Spaces on Basic — so coverage talk is not locked behind a messaging add-on or a Communications hub. Time Off stays org-wide on Premium so leave does not fragment by store.

That is the opposite of hub-priced stacks (see Connecteam pricing hubs and Pebb vs Connecteam) and the opposite of “buy another intranet and hope the floor logs in.” Full model: What are Pebb Spaces?.

Five sites or one: same seat count. Opening a Managers room is not a second invoice. That is what Workplace groups were trying to do — map the real org — without turning rooms into SKUs.

What sits next to the rooms (so WhatsApp stops being HQ)

Spaces alone do not kill Messenger-as-office. The work objects have to live beside the talk.

Org-wide chat on Basic ($2.50/user). The coverage channel without hunting a private group. Not a drop-in WhatsApp clone for friends — the work thread next to the roster and the punch. Depth: Replace WhatsApp for work teams.

Shifts and open shifts on Basic. Publish the week into site Spaces. Gaps become pickup, not “anyone free Saturday?” in a side DM.

GPS clock-in on Basic. Stamp ± optional near-branch validation. Proof near the place — not live breadcrumbs, not a tracking map of the afternoon. Timesheets close in-app and leave for payroll. Pebb does not run payroll.

Premium ($4/user) adds voice/video calls, news feed, Time Off, tasks, forms, wiki, analytics, SSO — still one per-user meter, still unlimited Spaces.

Typical week after a Workplace exit: Monday publish next week’s roster into two site Spaces; Tuesday crew clocks in with a GPS stamp; Wednesday an incident form lives in the site Space; Thursday a Premium call from org-wide chat when a cooler dies; Friday timesheets export toward payroll. Coverage talk sits beside the week — not in WhatsApp and not in an unread intranet.

Honest: when Slack / Teams still win

Say this out loud before you migrate.

Pick Slack or Microsoft Teams when most of the company is keyboard-first office, integrations already live there, and the floor is a minority that can tolerate a desk tool. Pebb is not trying to beat Slack at that desk.

Pick another intranet when the real problem is enterprise broadcast and recognition across thousands — and the floor already has a working ops stack.

Pick Connecteam when a single-hub scope already replaced the daily surface, or when LMS / courses / hiring are load-bearing. Pebb has no LMS and no ATS. Hub math: Connecteam alternative · Pebb vs Connecteam.

Pick Pebb when Workplace was the closest shared phone surface for mixed frontline + small office, WhatsApp became the coverage OS after shutdown, and you want chat + Spaces + shifts + punch in one login for ~11–80 people — without buying hubs to reconstruct Tuesday.

Basic leaves the temporary Workplace stack: org-wide chat, shifts, GPS clock-in, timesheets, directory, unlimited Spaces. Premium for calls, feed, PTO, forms, tasks, wiki, analytics, or SSO. Model competitor quotes with every hub, location meter, or Messaging+ needed for talk + roster + punch — that all-in number sits next to Pebb seats.

How to switch without a second shutdown mess

Do not rip every group on Friday and hope Monday works.

1. Map former Workplace groups to Spaces: one Space per site/crew, a Managers Space, an Everyone Space for company-wide posts.

2. Invite one crew with a link. Publish the same week’s shifts in their Space. Turn on clock-in with a GPS stamp.

3. Mute WhatsApp for that crew’s coverage only if the GM agrees — test whether the closer sees the swap and the punch without a second app.

4. Keep Slack/Teams if the office already lives there for knowledge work; move the floor OS, not the CFO’s channel archive.

5. Leave historical files where they are if export is painful; put forward SOPs and incident forms into Spaces.

6. Expand Space by Space — not “big bang intranet day.”

You are testing whether talk, rooms, roster, and punch share one login — not “engagement.” If that fails, stay. If it works, drop the temporary stack.

Hard limits (read before you call this a Workplace clone)

  • Not a Facebook-clone social feed. Connecteam-class ops + communications + collaboration. Daily employee app — not “Workplace 2.0.”

  • No free plan. Budget Basic or Premium; use the full trial (no card) to prove one crew’s week.

  • No payroll, LMS, or ATS. Timesheets leave; training and hiring stay specialist.

  • GPS is a stamp ± near-branch, not live breadcrumbs.

  • Offline is not full. Dead zones may need a tool that caches a full shift.

  • Not Slack/Teams for pure office knowledge work. Different ICP.

  • No fake 10k-customer or G2 4.9 claims on this page. Run the trial on your sites.

FAQ

Is Pebb a Meta Workplace replacement / Facebook-at-work clone?

No. It replaces the *daily jobs* many teams used Workplace for on a phone — shared rooms, updates, a place the floor might open — with an ops-first employee app: chat, Spaces, shifts, clock-in. It is not a social feed product.

We already bought Slack after Workplace. Do we still need Pebb?

If Slack fully replaced coverage, roster, and punch for the floor — no. If Slack is the office and WhatsApp is still the floor OS, price Pebb for the crew that never lived in Slack.

Do you have a free plan?

No. Basic $2.50 or Premium $4 per user (USD). Full trial, no card.

Basic or Premium after a Workplace exit?

Talk + Spaces + shifts + clock-in + timesheets → Basic. Premium for calls, feed, PTO, forms, wiki, SSO. Spaces unlimited either way.

How are Spaces different from Workplace groups?

Both map the org into rooms. On Pebb, Spaces carry ops tools (shifts, clock-in, forms) and are unlimited without hub or location meters. Chat is org-wide on Basic outside Spaces. See What are Pebb Spaces?.

Does GPS mean you track people all shift?

No. Stamp ± optional near-branch only.

Does Pebb replace payroll or training?

No. No payroll, LMS, or ATS.

Where do WhatsApp, Connecteam, and money fit?

Leave the temporary stack. Keep the daily app.

Twenty-five people. Rooms that map to real sites. Chat that is not a hub. Shifts the floor trusts. Punches that leave for payroll. Unlimited Spaces. USD seats you can forecast — full trial, no card. Not another intranet.
